Hungarian Chicken Paprikash

Get into the tasty flavors of Hungary by preparing Chicken Paprikash, a soothing and heavy meal that exposes paprika’s warmth. Present this dish while still hot either over buttered egg noodles or smooth mashed potatoes and then garnish with some chopped fresh parsley to bring in some freshness and more colors. This food is good for a small family dinner which has a soft amalgamation of tender chicken and creamy paprika gravy to heat your heart up and move you to Hungarian traditional kitchens.

Ingredients:

1 whole chicken, cut into pieces

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 large onion, chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons sweet paprika

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 cup chicken broth

1 cup sour cream

2 tablespoons flour

Cooked egg noodles, for serving

Instructions:

Over medium heat, warm the olive oil in a large Dutch oven. Brown on all sides the chicken pieces then remove from pot and set aside.

In the same pot add diced onion and cook until translucent. Add the garlic and cook for another minute.

Add paprika, salt, pepper and stir for an extra minute.

Place back chicken pieces into the pot and pour in chicken broth. Simmer it on low heat until cooked through chicken about 45 minutes approximately.

In a small bowl mix flour and sour cream smoothly. Slowly blend this cream into pot stirring continuously.

Leave it to cook for another 5-10 minutes until sauce is thickened.

Serve over cooked egg noodles; enjoy your dinner!
